Rose 2014 08

This rose was an experiment with layering water colors to get deeper darks. The darkest areas were painted first in india ink to darken the paper. It was a little hard to handle if I let the watercolors on top get too wet. It was so hard waiting a full day for the last layer. But the leaves have some fantastic details, and the darks are very dark. I lost the smoothness by going back in so many times, but with practice that should improve. The white is chalk I used to line out the edges for the last red highlights.

    1. It came along pretty well. The colors came out richer than I expected, there were a few stages they threatened muddiness. Roses are so beautiful. I am glad you liked it too.
